Definitions
DVR (Digital Video Recorder) A self-contained, high definition video recorder which records time lapse pictures, typically for up to 30 days, on to a computer hard drive)
WDR (Wide Dynamic Recorder) A camera capable of adjusting light levels of individual sections of a picture, compensating for high contrasts, eg. Shop doorways
IR Lights – LED Infrared Lighting produced by high powered LEDs commonly used for areas where normal permanent visual lighting would not be permitted or where covert viewing is required
PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) A camera which can be moved around and zoomed in and out, normally by remote control using a joy stick
Static Dome A camera which is manually set to cover a specific location
PTZ Dome A dome camera which can be moved around and zoomed in and out, normally by remote control using a joy stick
PIR (Passive Infrared) Externally mounted, high specification detectors used to trigger a CCTV system, either to log an event or remotely contact a security company allowing live viewing of site
Audible Challenge Unit Loud speakers remotely controlled by a security company, to warn off prospective intruder
Lenses
AI (Auto-Iris) A lens which is capable of opening and closing to vary the light level viewed by a camera
EI (Electronic Iris) An electronic method of varying lighting levels, normally used as a cheap option to Auto-Iris
VF (Vari Focal) A camera lens which can be manually zoomed in and out to precisely cover the area required
